Casino phishing: check the address before entering a password

A copied logo and familiar sign-in button prove very little. Inspect the address, the route you followed and any request for information before trusting the page.

Start with the address bar

Expand the full address, particularly on a phone. A brand in a subdomain is not proof of ownership: brand.example.com belongs to example.com. Look for substituted characters, extra hyphens and an unfamiliar domain ending. HTTPS encrypts a connection; it does not authenticate a casino brand.

Urgent bonus messages

Do not enter credentials after following an unexpected last-chance offer. Open the known address separately and check the account area. Support staff do not need your password, card security code or bank verification code. Decline requests to install remote-access software or share your screen.

If you already submitted information

Change the exposed password through the verified website and revoke other sessions where possible. Contact your bank through its app or the number on your card if payment information was disclosed. Save the fraudulent URL and messages. Do not pay someone who promises to recover the money for another fee.

Check the address rather than the logo

A logo, button colour and sender name are easy to copy. Expand the address bar and inspect the domain before entering information. A familiar brand in a subdomain does not establish that brand’s ownership of the address. An encrypted connection does not prove commercial identity either. Take particular care with messenger links, advertisements and shortened URLs. If a message demands urgent account access, open the known address independently. Do not install remote-access software or reveal banking codes for promised assistance, refunds or rewards. If information was already disclosed, use verified recovery channels rather than continuing through the suspicious message.

Password and recovery security

Use different passwords for the account and recovery email. Reusing one combination connects unrelated services: a compromise at one site can affect another. Where additional sign-in verification is available, review its settings and recovery-code storage. Sign out on shared devices and do not leave the recovery mailbox open. After a suspicious login, open the known address independently and inspect sessions and profile changes. Do not share a password with someone claiming to be an administrator. Verifying identity through a secure procedure differs from revealing a login secret. Urgency does not remove the need to check who is requesting information.

App permissions and download origin

The download route matters as much as the application’s appearance. Check the download page, publisher and explanation of requested permissions. Access to contacts, messages or device controls needs a clear reason rather than a promised bonus. Stop installation if asked to disable system protection, and verify the request through a known channel. A home-screen shortcut is not the same as a native application. Browser access and a separate app have different technical properties. A failed download is not a reason to obtain a random copy from an unrelated channel. Record the error and confirm the supported operating-system version instead.
